The world faces unprecedented investment needs in development and in carrying out the global energy transition. Financing the energy transition alone requires in excess of $1 Trillion per year.
It is not enough to say that global capital resources are sufficient. They must be mobilized by creating attractive, scalable opportunities for global investors at a cost low enough to assure that these long-term investments take place.
The Global Partnership for Sustainable Investment is a vehicle for meeting these goals by providing foreign exchange risk mitigation and scalable, liquid investment opportunities. It brings together four partners: Global investors, Governments & Multi-lateral Development Banks (MDBs), Borrowers and Financial markets, as well as an innovative mechanism to reduce foreign exchange risk.
Global institutional investors | Source of capital |
Governments & MDBs | Credit support to create investment-grade assets |
Borrowers | High financial, and social, returns by replacing fossil fuels with far cheaper renewable energy. |
Financial institutions | Providing liquidity and flexibility |
